Fire on a Barguna-bound launch: Death toll goes up to 37; Jamaat Ameer condoles

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has issued the following message of condolence on 24th December, 2021 expressing deep shock as at least 37 passengers were killed and 200 became burnt after a fire broke out in the engine room of a launch on the Sugandha River near Jhalakathi Sadar upazila early today.

The fire started around 3:00 am on the Barguna-bound MV Abhijan-10 launch that started journey from Dhaka. The launch was moving towards Barguna from Dhaka. More than 200 passengers became burnt and 37 burnt dead bodies have been recovered so far. I am deeply shocked and saddened with the incident. Public lives and properties are massively damaged. May Almighty Allah bless these shocked families tolerant and patient to get rid of this unbearable shock and loss.

I am praying to Allah for the salvation of the departed souls. I am also extending sympathy to these mournful families. I am also expecting quick recoveries of the injured. Finally, I am urging the concerned authorities to take effective measures to undertake effective measures to ensure their treatments and also to pay due compensations to the victim families.
