Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has issued the following statement on 2 July 2021 urging to be refrained from executing the top leadership of Muslim Brotherhood, politicians, intellectuals and human rights activists by the tyrant regime and also demanding immediate release of all the detainees.
“Since the dethronement of Egypt’s first democratically elected President Dr. Mohamed Morsi in 2013, the incumbent tyrant military ruler of Egypt has made all the arrangements of issuing death sentence and life term imprisonment against the senior leaders of Muslim Brotherhood, noted politicians, thinkers and human rights activists. Since 2013, death penalties have been declared against 183 people. In last month of holy Ramadan, 17 of them have been executed brutally. We came to know from global media that the military regime is going to execute another 12 persons shortly. We are extremely worried over such initiatives of the Egyptian authority.
These noble personalities have struggled throughout their lives to establish Islamic ideology, democracy based on religious spirit, human rights, rule of law and justice. Their only crime is they had conducted peaceful movement against the tyrant regime who had unjustifiably ousted an elected government. We are highly tensed as the authority is mulling to execute mainstream Islamic leaders and intellectuals which may ultimately pave the way for extremism.
We believe that, if democratic process is thwarted and people’s rights to speech is snatched away, then undemocratic force would be promoted. We are urging the Egyptian authority to halt executions of the eminent personalities and to release them immediately. Besides, we are calling upon the international platforms including United Nations, human rights watchdogs and democratic platforms and organizations to create pressure upon the authority of Egypt to stop the process of these barbaric executions.
