Jamaat Ameer urges to preserve and protect the sanctity of holy month of Ramadan

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has issued the following statement on 12 April 2021 urging to preserve and protect the sanctity of holy month of Ramadan and also to conduct personal and the social interaction and state functions based on piety and fear of Allah.

Amid the increasing rate of covid-19 pandemic worldwide, holy month of Ramadan has appeared before us with the sermon of mercy, forgiveness and salvation. The Holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: It (Ramadan) is the month, whose beginning is mercy, its middle, forgiveness and its end, emancipation from the fire (of hell). In the last 10 days of this month, there is night called ‘Lailatul Qadr, which better than thousand months. By performing an obligatory duty, an individual can attain 70 times reward than other months. Where, by performing a voluntary work in this month an individual can attain the reward of an obligatory work. This month is the month of achieving piety and mutual empathy.

People of the country have become truly helpless due to the disastrous situation caused by the coronavirus. People are rushing from one hospital to another but getting no treatment. Whereas the low-income people are at the risk of becoming bankrupt as their source of income gets limited. I am urging all to take stand by the side of these helpless people.

Ramadan is the holy month when the holy Quran was revealed. Holy Quran is the biggest blessings for the humanity. So, we can attain the rights and demands of this month by getting deep into this book and simultaneously by building our social, family and national lives according to the spirit and guideline of this holy book. Almighty Allah has made fasting obligatory in this month so that we can nurture such a mind which is essential to receive guidance from holy Quran. I am requesting everybody to become more attentive to observe fasting with due sanctity and fervor.

Coronavirus has emerged globally as pandemic as we denied obeying the rules and directives of Almighty Allah. As Allah says in the Quran, “Mischief has appeared on land and sea because of (the meed) that the hands of men have earned, that ((Allah)) may give them a taste of some of their deeds: in order that they may turn back (from Evil). (Sura Rum: Verse 41) Misdeeds like nudity, indecency, bribery, exploitation, repression, corruption, torture against women and children, murder, rape and crimes against humanity have increased so alarmingly in the society and as a consequence of such mischiefs, this kind of aversities are being appeared. Calamities and dangers would be removed if people turn back to Allah and His directives. I am asking my fellow countrymen to pray sincerely before Almighty Allah seeking protection and safety from coronavirus pandemic.

It is the duty and obligation of the government to maintain the purity and sanctity of the holy month of Ramadan and also to curb price hike of essentials and all sorts of indecencies. We are urging the government to stop these misdeeds. Besides, we are calling upon the authorities concern to take due steps to bring price of essentials within common’s reach and to improve law and order situation in order to protect public lives and properties.
