Jamaat Ameer demands immediate release of Allama Sayedee

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has issued the following statement on 7 December 2020 urging to stop harassing detained AllamaDelawar Hossain Sayedee and to release him immediately.

“World renowned speaker of the holy Quran and veteran religious scholar AllamaDelawar Hossain Sayedee is remaining behind the bar for last 10 years. He is 82 now and suffering from various diseases. He is also under health risks due to covid-19 pandemic situation. He was produced again before a makeshift court, in the Dhaka Alia Madrasa Ground in Bakshi Bazar of the capital in connection with two cases. The cases are 10 years old. The countrymen are well informed that AllamaDelawar Hossain Sayedee has been sentenced to imprisonment till death in a case of crimes against humanity. He is leading a terrible life inside the prison. Amid such adversity and pandemic atmosphere, he has been produced before the court just to cause him physically and mentally. It is a severe repression against him.

His family members are not allowed to meet him. By conducting such an oppression against an aged Islamic scholar, the government has seized his basic rights. We are urging the authorities concerned to stop harassment and to release him immediately.
