18 people including 11 women and children killed in 3 tragic accidents; Jamaat Ameer condoles
Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has issued the following message of condolence on 9 September, 2020 expressing deep shock as at least 18 people including 11 women and children have been killed and 10 more injured in 3 major accidents in different parts of the country.
At least 11 people including women and children drowned while 10 other passengers remained missing in a collision between two trawlers in a river at Netrakona's Kalmakanda upazila today. Most of the victims hailed from Dharampasha upazila in Sunamganj district except for Hamida who hailed from Netrakona's Sadar upazila.The incident took place in the Netrakona's Borokhapon area around 9:30am at the Gomai River, when a goods-laden trawler collided with another trawler carrying 30 to 35 passengers. The trawler was coming to ThakurakonaGhat in Netrakona Sadar upazila from Madhyanagor, adjacent to Sunamganj district. While, six members of a family were killed in a road accident on Dhaka-Barishal Highway in Ujirpur upazila of Barishal today.They were taking the body of an infant to their hometown by an ambulance. On their way, the ambulance collided head-on with a covered van. In another road accident, bus helper has been killed and 10 more passengers became injured as cavard van collided with a passenger bus in Nogpara area of Gazipur city corporation.
I am expressing deep shock for these three tragic mishaps. I am expressing deep sympathy for the people who have been killed in these accidents. May Allah bless them with Jannah. I am also praying for the injured. I am extending my sympathy to the victim families.
I am urging the authority to recover the missing victims. The authority must conduct a fair investigation into the accidents to find out the real reason and also to identify the personnel involved. I am calling upon the Jamaat leaders and activists to provide support and assistances to the victim families.
