Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has issued the following statement on 1 September 2020 demanding immediate release of Jamaat’s Nayeb-e-Ameer Maulana ANM Shamsul Islam and other detained Jamaat leaders and activists.

Nayeb-e-Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Maulana ANM Shamsul Islam and party’s central working committee member Ahsan Ullah went to a Chittagong court for attending a hearing in connection with a false case. Earlier, both of them had secured bail from High Court in this case. Accordingly, they surrendered before the court and pleaded for a bail today. But the court rejected their bail petitions and sent them to jail.

The case which has been filed against them is completely false and politically motivated. They surrendered before the court as a law bound citizen. We are surprised and shocked as the court rejected their bail plea. This false case has been filed against them just to harass them politically. This is nothing but a continuation of government’s conspiracy to oppress and harass the leaders and activists of the opposition parties.

We are protesting and condemning such move of the government and demanding immediate release of Maulana Shamsul Islam and other detainees.
