Flood situation deteriorates; Jamaat Ameer calls to help the flood victims

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has issued the following statement on 18 July 2020 expressing deep concern as millions of people have become waterlogged because of the deteriorating flood situation.

“Water of maximum rivers of the country are flowing over the danger level due to torrential rain and hillsides. Neighboring country India also opened the gates of several dams which caused severe deterioration of flood situation, particularly in the northern region. Because of such over flow of water, the incident of river erosion has been increasing alarmingly as well.

Houses, crops and other establishment have gone under water in various districts including Kurigram, Gaibandha, Manikganj, Tangail, Bogra and Sirajganj. Though some farmers have managed to take shelter in a higher place, but they are in deep trouble with their domestic animals. The crisis of food and safe drinking water become deepened in these areas. Water prone diseases are spreading over the flood affected area like anything. But so far, government’s assistances in these areas are just nothing in comparison to actual requirement.

People, irrespective of their political views and identities, must come forward to help these helpless people. Government’s relief actions and assistances are not visible yet. We are shocked to see such reluctant and indifferent role from the concerned authority. I am urging the affluent corners and the leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami to take stand by the side of the flood victims. I am calling upon them to strengthen their relief and other humanitarian works as well.”
