Jamaat Ameer calls to observe ‘Martyr Intellectual Day’ and ‘Victory Day’ with due fervor

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has issued the following statement on 12 December 2019 urging to observe ‘Martyr Intellectual Day’ on 14 December and ‘Victory Day’ on 16 December.

‘Martyr Intellectual Day’ and ‘Victory Day’ are going to be observed respectively on 14th and16 December. These two days have huge significance in our national lives. We are remembering the valiant freedom fighters, who have fought and sacrificed their lives for the independence of the country. We are praying for the departed souls of our national heroes.

The nation is going to observe ‘Martyr Intellectual Day’ and ‘Victory Day’ in such a crucial period when the nation is passing through a suffocating situation. Democracy is the basic output of our liberation war. But losing that basic spirit, the nation has stated moving towards an uncertain destiny. The only way to rescue the nation from the existing political deadlock is to hold dialogue with all the political parties in order to hold a free, fair and participatory election. People’s voting rights must be restored. Crackdown, arrest drives and oppression to be stopped as well. Otherwise, the prevailing crisis would be deepened and the government has to take the liabilities.

To mark ‘Martyr Intellectual Day’ and ‘Victory Day’, I am urging all wings and front organizations of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami to hold discussion and prayer program with a vow to preserve and protect country’s independence and sovereignty.

Besides, I would like to greet my fellow countrymen on the occasion of the Victory Day and wishing their peace, happiness, progress and prosperity.
