Khaleda Zia falls sick in jail; Acting Ameer demands immediate release to ensure better treatment at her desired place

Acting Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former member of the Parliament Maulana ANM Shamsul Islam has issued the following statement on 31st March, 2018 urging the concerned authority to take due initiatives to release 20 party alliance leader, BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia and to provide proper medical treatment at her desired place immediately.

“We are deeply worried and concerned at the news which reveals that 20 party alliance leader, BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia has become sick inside the jail. I am calling upon the government to release her and also to ensure proper treatment at her desired place.

Several ministers are delivering different kinds of statements in regards to the sickness of Begum Khaleda Zia. Such conspiracies and ill-campaigns from the ministers are unjustified, unexpected and unprecedented. Couple of months back, Begum Khaleda Zia had gone to the abroad and then came back after completing her treatment. The government has been creating psychological pressure in many ways by keeping her behind the bar and resultantly she became sick. By not allowing from getting better treatment, the government also violated the human rights.

Begum Khaleda Zia is the former Prime Minister of the country. It is her constitutional and fundamental right to get better treatment in abroad. But denying her release, the government is breaching domestic law and the constitution.

The fellow countrymen expect that the government would demonstrate respect towards the law, constitution and human rights and consider the issue of Begum Khaleda Zia’s sickness on humanitarian ground to release her for ensuring better and proper treatment at her desired place.”
