Acting Ameer calls for cancelling remand order against Jamaat Ameer Maqbul Ahmad

Acting Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former lawmaker Professor Mujibur Rahman has issued the following statement on 30th October, 2017 protesting and condemning the police’s recent move as they have taken Jamaat Ameer Maqbul Ahmad in a 3 day remand in connection with a false case filed with Motijheel police station.

“The incident of taking Jamaat Ameer Maqbul Ahmad in a 3 day police remand in connection with a false case is really inhuman. He has been taken into police remand as a part of government’s decision of harassing him politically.

He became physically weak after he had been arrested on last 9th October. The countrymen are well acknowledged that he is at his 80. He has been suffering from various diseases including diabetes, high blood pressure and cardiac diseases. After his arrest, when he was produced before the court for the first time, he lawyers pleaded for his adequate medical treatment. But paying no heed to that appeal, he was taken into 10 day police remand. The government is torturing him as he has taken into another 3 day remand today. Such behaviour with a national leader is really regrettable.

Warning the government we want to assert that if any major setback happens to Jamaat Ameer Maqbul Ahmad’s physical condition, then the government has to take that liability. I am also calling upon the concerned authorities to cancel his remand and to free him immediately.”
