Acting Ameer appreciates the countrymen for making Jamaat declared general strike successful

Acting Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former lawmaker Professor Mujibur Rahman has issued the following statement on 12th October, 2017 hailing the countrymen for observing the nationwide dawn to dusk strike which has been declared by Jamaat-e-Islami protesting against the unjustifiable arrest of Jamaat Ameer Maqbul Ahmad, Nayeb-e-Ameer and ex-lawmaker Professor Mia Ghulam Parwar, Secretary General Dr. Shafiqur Rahman and demanding their release.

“Ignoring the government’s threats, obstruction and arrest drive, the countrymen has made the Jamaat declared nationwide strike successful today. I am congratulating my fellow citizens in this regard.

I am severely protesting unjust arrest of 211 Jamaat activists from different places across the country during today’s strike including Dhaka, Chittagong, Rajshahi, Khulna, Rangpur, Sylhet, Comilla, Barisal, Gazipur, Kushtia, Pabna, Natore and Chuadanga. I am demanding their immediate release. Through these relentless arrest drives, government’s fascist face has been exposed once again.

The government is trying to stay in power forcefully by conducting severe torture and repression against the opposition, particularly against Jamaat-e-Islami. The government’s popularity is at stake due to such brutal oppressions. The government is plotting conspiracy to introduce one party rule in the country. I am urging the countrymen to launch mass resistance against this conspiracy.

I am urging the concerned authorities to stop all repressions and conspiracies and to release all the detained leaders including Jamaat Ameer Maqbul Ahmad, Nayeb-e-Ameer and ex-lawmaker Professor Mia Ghulam Parwar and Secretary General Dr. Shafiqur Rahman. Besides, I am calling upon the countrymen to offer special prayer for the release of Jamaat leaders.
