Jamaat-e-Islami declares nationwide dawn to dusk strike on Thursday protesting the arrest of its top leaders

Acting Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former lawmaker Professor Mujibur Rahman has issued the following statement on 10th October, 2017 protesting against the unjust arrest and subsequent 10 days remand against top leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami including its Ameer Maqbul Ahmad, Nayeb-e-Ameer and former lawmaker Professor Mia Ghulam Parwar and Secretary General Dr. Shafiqur Rahman and simultaneously declaring three day programs including general strike on Thursday demanding their immediate release.

“The government is pushing the nation towards a one party rule by destroying the leaderships of Jamaat-e-Islami and the opposition forces. As a part of the same ill-strategy, they had arrested the top leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami unlawfully and granted 10 days remand against them in connection with some false and politically motivated cases. We have no word to condemn such unlawful, undemocratic and tyrannical activities of the government.

The government has violated the human rights and made a severe oppression against the Jamaat top leaders by detaining then unjustifiably and subsequently by putting them into police remand. Such a kind of heinous act is unimaginable in a civilized and democratic state. We are deeply shocked and aggrieved with such move of the government.

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami is a law bound political party. But for last 7 years, the government is not allowing Jamaat-e-Islami to hold meeting and processions and denouncing our legal and constitutional rights relentlessly. The government is torturing and repressing the Jamaat men by violating the constitution and the law. They are arresting, murdering and abducting the Jamaat activists unlawfully. The authoritarian government has created a suffocating situation nationwide through their autocratic strategies.

The government is invalidating the constitutional institutions one by one. The law enforcement bodies have become the tool of government’s repression. The government also seized the freedom of judiciary as well. Democracy, human rights, rule of law and justice are not prevailing in the country.

In this backdrop, I am declaring the following programs on behalf of Jamaat-e-Islami protesting against the unjust arrest and subsequent 10 days remand against top leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami including its Ameer Maqbul Ahmad, Nayeb-e-Ameer and former lawmaker Professor Mia Ghulam Parwar and Secretary General Dr. Shafiqur Rahman and simultaneously demanding their immediate release:

1) Nationwide peaceful demonstration on 11th October, Wednesday
2) Nationwide dawn to dusk general strike on 12th October, Thursday
3) Special prayer program seeking the blessings of Almighty Allah for immediate release of the top leaders

I am urging all wings and front organizations of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami to make the declared programs successful and seeking the assistance of the countrymen in this regard.
