23 people died in two trawlers capsize incidents; Jamaat Ameer condoles; calls for help and assistance

Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Maqbul Ahmad has issued the following statement on 1st April, 2017 expressing deep condolence as 17 people died and 3 went missing in a trawler capsize in the Panguchi river of the Morolganj Upazila in Bagerhar district on last 28th March and similar trawler capsize incident in Meghna river in Char Kishorganj of the Sonargaon Upazila under Narayanganj district on 30th March that left 6 women killed and 8 others missing.

“We are deeply worried as a significant number of people are being killed in road and naval accidents in recent times. The numbers of casualties have increased alarmingly due to negligence of the roads and naval authorities.

The accidents are repeatedly taken place also for the unskilled trawler drivers, unfit trawlers and overloaded passengers. Effective initiatives should be taken to investigate into the naval accidents of Morolganj of Bagerhat and Sonargaon of Narayanganj for identifying the real reasons and also for prevention of any such mishaps. I am calling upon the authorities concerned to bring the personnel to the justice who were responsible for the accidents and simultaneously to pay due compensation to the victims.

I am praying for the salvation for the deceased who have died in these mishaps and extending deep sympathy to the mournful families of the victims. I am also praying for the quick recovery of the injured peoples. Finally, I am urging the concerned wings and units of Jamaat-e-Islami and the affluent sections of the society to come forward to extend their help and assistance to these victims.
