Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Secretary General and former MP, Professor Mia Golam Porwar, issued the following statement on March 10, strongly condemning and protesting the heinous attack by BNP terrorists on Jamaat’s women leaders in Maheshpur, Jhenaidah.
"I strongly condemn and protest the dreadful attack by BNP terrorists on Jamaat’s women leaders in Maheshpur in Jhenaidah district. This heinous incident has even surpassed the terrorist brutality of the Awami fascists what they had committed before August 5 of last year.
For the awareness of the nation, I would like to mention that on Sunday at around 10 AM, local women were attending a discussion meeting marking International Women’s Day at the residence of Khairul Islam in Kullopara village, Bashbaria Union, Maheshpur Upazila. At that time, BNP terrorists from the area namely Al Amin, Jhumur, Saheb, Sohel, and Ashraful—attacked Jamaat’s women leaders, including Hasina Khatun, using hammers, scissors, and bamboo sticks while verbally abusing them in vulgar language.
When they were asked to stop their verbal abuse, they struck Saleha Begum with a bamboo stick. Additionally, the attackers forcefully dragged Hasina Khatun out of Khairul Islam’s house to the road and slapped her twice on the left ear. Furthermore, Al Amin, Saheb, and Sohel pulled Hasina Khatun’s scarf, attempting to violate her dignity, and forcibly removed her head covering, leaving her standing exposed on the road.
A short while later, they fled the place after issuing threats.
I strongly urge the government to conduct a free, fair, and impartial investigation into this heinous attack on Jamaat’s women leaders by BNP terrorists and ensure exemplary punishment against those who were responsible for this incident."
