A Bangladeshi teenager shot dead by Indian BSF; Secretary General express concern

Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former MP Professor Mia Golam Porwar issued a statement on 9th September, 2024 expressing deep concern as a Bangladeshi teenager named Jayant Kumar Singh was shot dead by Indian BSF on the Baliadangi border of Thakurgaon, Bangladesh on September 8.

Within days of the tragic killing incident of 14-year-old girl Swarna Das by the Indian BSF on the Kulaura border of Moulvibazar district on the night of 8th September, a teenager named Jayant Kumar Singh was again shot dead by the same BSF on the Baliadangi border of Thakurgaon today. We have no language to condemn the incident. The people of Bangladesh are shocked and worried about such behavior of India. We note with deep concern that Indian BSF is often shooting people of Bangladesh like birds without provocation and for no reason. Such activities of Indian BSF are a clear violation of international law and human rights.

He also said that the people of Bangladesh always want friendly attitude from the neighboring countries like India. We hope the Government of India will stop the killings of the civilians in border and also conduct a fair and impartial investigation into the murders of the deceased teenager Jayant Kumar Singh and Swarna Das and take legal action against the murderers.

He said, "I express my deepest condolences to the families of Jayant Kumar Singh and Swarna Das, and strongly urge the government to provide appropriate financial compensation to the victim families.”
