6 Jamaat leaders including city Ameer arrested from Brahmanbaria; Secretary General protests

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami's Secretary General and former lawmaker Professor Mia Golam Porwar has issued the following statement on 7th May 2024 protesting and condemning the unjustified arrests of 6 Jamaat leaders and activists from Brahmanbaria including city Ameer.

On last 6th May evening, police have unjustly arrested 6 Jamaat leaders and activists from Brahmanbaria including Brahmanbaria city Jamaat Ameer Abul Bashar. I am severely condemning the incident.

As a part of the centrally declared mass contact and Dawah campaign, Jamaat leaders and activists were conducting campaigns in Shimailkandi area of Brahmanbaria city. At that time, police arrested all of them without any valid reason. There was no charge or accusation against them.

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami is a systematic, democratic and peaceful Islamic party. Jamaat has been doing politics for the betterment of the people. In all natural disasters and calamities, Jamaat takes stand by the side of the victims. During the ongoing mass contact and Dawah campaign, huge number of people responded and spontaneously joined to Jamaat-e-Islami. Being failed to tackle Jamaat-e-Islami ideologically, the government is harassing the Jamaat activists by lodging false cases. The ruling Awami League also obstructed Jamaat's peaceful Dawah program and thus they have proved that they donot believe in coexistence of the dissident political parties. So they should not speak loudly about democracy.

I am urging the concerned authorities to release all detained leaders and activists including Brahmanbaria city Ameer Abul Bashar unconditionally and immediately.
