Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Acting Ameer and former lawmaker Professor Mujibur Rahman has issued the following statement on 15th August 2023 protesting the authority’s attitude as they did not allow to arrange a Namaj-e-Janaja of worldly acclaimed preacher of the Quran Allama Delwar Hossain Sayedee and also condemning the police’s attack upon the gathered presence.
Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Nayeb-e-Ameer, world-renowned preacher of the Quran and former MP Allama Delawar Hossain Sayedee died while undergoing treatment on 14th August at 8;40 pm. Immediate after the spreading news, they started gathering at the premise of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University, BSMMU. As the time flies, people from different area of the city started coming to BSMMU hospital. Following a coordination between the family of Allama Sayedee and the administration, it has been decided to hold Janaja in Pirojpur on15th August and another Janaja in absentia on 16th August, noon in Dhaka.
The presence started to raise demand of holding Janaja at the hospital. Many of the devotees tried to restrict ‘dead body-carrying ambulance. They called upon to arrange a Janaja in Dhaka. But the countrymen shockingly observed how the law enforcers entered into the hospital or threw sound grenade, bullets and tear shell, Even the attendants of other patients and the general Muslim were not spared as well. We are protesting and condemning such move.
Allama Delwar Hossain Sayedee is a hero and he is involved with public heart. But it is a matter of great regret that in the last stage of life, he was not allowed to talk to the family. The family members were not allowed to see him which is painful and unrealistic.
I am praying for to Allah for those people who have been injured in this incident. I am also seeking the assistance of the countrymen and the administration in this regard.
