Nayeb-e-Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami A.T.M Azharul Islam said, “If Jamaat-e-Islami assumes state power with the people’s mandate, there will be no corruption in the country. Bangladesh is not a poor country; it has been kept poor through corruption.”
He made these remarks on Tuesday (2 December) at 4 p.m. while addressing a public gathering organized in the courtyard of the Ambika auditorium in Faridpur, after paying respects at the graves of martyrs Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mujahid and Abdul Quader Molla.
A.T.M. Azhar said, “Those who used to claim themselves to be the true defenders of independence have now fled the country. True patriots do not flee from their homeland. No one has ever been able to bring even a single penny’s worth of corruption allegations against former Bangladesh Industries Minister Maulana Matiur Rahman Nizami and former Social Welfare Minister Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mujahid.”
He further said that from the post-1947 period until now, Bangladesh has not achieved true independence—only geographical independence. “The so-called defenders of independence have kept the country impoverished through corruption,” he added.
A.T.M. Azhar said, “Many claim that if Jamaat-e-Islami comes to power, women will be confined to their homes. But in reality, our women are performing various responsibilities outside their homes.”
At the gathering, A.T.M. Azhar introduced the Jamaat-e-Islami nominated parliamentary candidates for the Faridpur-1, Faridpur-2, Faridpur-3, and Faridpur-4 constituencies.
The meeting was presided over by Faridpur district Ameer Maulana Badar Uddin, and was attended by leaders of different levels of the district Jamaat.
