Voter gatherings held at various places in Atlia Union

The people will not accept any election without fundamental reforms, claims Mia Golam Porwar

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Secretary General and former Member of Parliament, Mia Golam Porwar, said: “The interim government is moving toward elections. Today the Election Commission has announced the electoral roadmap. In December, the commission is likely to declare the election schedule. As an election-oriented party, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami will participate in that election. But from the very beginning, we have told the government: if the election is held without fundamental reforms, the people of this country will not accept it. Therefore, necessary reforms must be made before the election. We must build the new Bangladesh that was achieved through the sacrifices of students and people.”

He said this while addressing as the chief guest at a voter gathering held at the rice mill field of Maltia village in Atlia Union in Dumuria upazila of Khulna district, on Thursday.
The meeting was presided over by Union Ameer Maulana Matiur Rahman. Special guests included Khulna District Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary Munshi Mizanur Rahman, Assistant Secretary Professor Mia Golam Quddus, District Working Committee member Advocate Abu Yusuf Molya, Islami Chhatrashibir’s former International Affairs Secretary and educationist Dr. Ekram Uddin Suman. The program was hosted by Union Secretary Md. Moin Uddin.

Highlighting various development activities in Atlia Union, the former MP Professor Mia Golam Porwar said: “During my time as MP, I tried my best to develop roads, mosques, madrasas, temples, crematoriums, and graveyards in Atlia Union. If you re-elect me in the upcoming election, I will try to complete the unfinished development works, Insha’Allah. Just as I worked with dedication, honesty, and free of corruption in the past, I will continue to serve with integrity in the future.”

He added: “Almost half of our total voters are women. To create a mass wave for the ‘balance scale,’ the symbol of justice, in the upcoming election, you must start forming committees in every neighborhood, reaching out to every female voter with my greetings, and continue this effort until election day.”

Criticizing the announced July Charter, the Secretary General said:
“The July Charter diminishes the contribution of the 1947 partition, belittles the role of Islamic scholars, and fails to recognize the sacrifice of Hefazat. Therefore, this flawed charter cannot stand. Based on accurate historical facts, the contributions of everyone—from 1947 up to the people’s uprising in 2024—must be mentioned in the July Charter before the election.”

He further said: “No fascist regime can suppress revolutionary people forever. Just as Awami League could not suppress the revolutionary people of Bangladesh. After 15 and a half years of continuous struggle, sacrifice, and movements, they were finally forced to give up power under the leadership of our youth. They fled the country. We say, true patriots never think of fleeing their motherland. Those who love their country do not establish Begumpara in Canada and Malaysia. Those who love their country do not launder stolen money abroad. Those who love their country do not turn state-owned weapons against their own people. But they did all this. The head of fascism wanted to control this country like Pharaoh. But just as Allah removed Pharaohs of the past, those who carried the flag of fascism here have also been disgraced and expelled. They even left without telling their colleagues where they were going.”

Earlier in the day, at 8:30 am, he addressed voter gatherings at Morolbari in Rostampur, and another women’s voter gathering held at the Eidgah field of Nurania Islamia Fazil (Degree) Madrasa. Earlier, the Secretary General visited Hazrat Ayesha (RA) Qawmi Women’s Madrasa in Dumuria, Dibyopalli Multipurpose Secondary School in Chuknagar, Al-Jamiatul Islamia Imdadul Uloom Chakundia Madrasa Orphanage and Lillah Boarding, and Chuknagar Hasania Dakhil Madrasa, where he exchanged views with teachers. On this occasion, he also handed over footballs to students for sports activities.

Later, Secretary General Professor Mia Golam Porwar visited the residence of Dr. Ekram Uddin Suman, former student leader of Islami Chhatrashibir and educationist, to inquire about the health condition of his ailing mother.
