Jamaat’s immediate reaction to the roadmap, announced by the Election Commission

The declared roadmap is conventional and somewhat misleading; it does not reflect the expectations of the people, says Mia Golam Porwar

On Thursday night, August 28, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Secretary General and former MP, Professor Mia Golam Porwar, expressed his immediate reaction regarding the roadmap announced by the Election Commission and said:

“The roadmap announced by the Election Commission is conventional and somewhat misleading. He further stated that the nation’s expectation is that the upcoming national parliamentary election, scheduled to be held in February next year, will be free, fair, and acceptable. But the method by which the election will be conducted has not yet been determined. Even the legal basis of the July National Declaration and the process of its implementation have not been finalized as well. Under such circumstances, announcing this roadmap is premature and partial. It does not reflect the expectations of the people.

He further said, we believe that in order to restore democracy in the country by upholding the spirit of the July Revolution, the legal basis of the July National Declaration along with its implementation process should have been finalized before announcing the roadmap.”
