Police arrests 7 Jamaat leaders and activists from Bandarban; Secretary General protests

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami's Secretary General and former lawmaker Professor Mia Golam Porwar has issued the following statement on 30th June, 2024 protesting and condemning the unjustified arrest of 7 Jamaat leaders and activists from Bandarban district.

Police have unlawfully arrested 7 Jamaat leaders and activists from Bandarban district on last 27th June. There was no arrest of warrant against them. After detaining them for two days in a local police station, finally police produced them before the court in connection with a case under special power act. The court denied their bail plea and sent them to jail. I am condemning such repressive act of the government.

The incumbent government has been torturing Jamaat leaders and activists severely for last 15 years. The opposition men are being kept behind the bar unreasonably. Many people have lost their business. The government has come to office without any mandate and they are trying to subdue opposition voice by conducting torture and oppression. But ultimately they will not be able to stay in power.

I am urging the concerned authorities to stop torture and repression and to release all detained leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatrashibir immediately.
