37 females arrested from a Quran tutorial class in Narail; Mia Ghulam Parwar condemns; calls for immediate release

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Nayeb-e-Ameer and former lawmaker Professor Mia Ghulam Parwar has issued the following statement on 1st May, 2017 protesting and condemning the unjustifiable and inhuman arrest of 37 females from a tutorial class of the holy Quran in Narail district including district Jamaat’s women wing secretary Professor Hosne Ara Jesmine and working committee member Hosne Ara Khatun.

“Police has unlawfully and unreasonably arrested 37 females from a tutorial class of the holy Quran in Narail district including district Jamaat’s women wing secretary Professor Hosne Ara Jesmine and working committee member Hosne Ara Khatun just to harass them. They are completely innocent.

The detained ladies were learning how to recite holy Quran properly. The tutorial class was arranged by an institution namely Talimul Quran. The ladies who were learning the holy Quran were very ordinary. There is no connection between this tutorial class of holy Quran and politics. Police has committed a wrong deed by obstructing this noble task of Quran learning.

It should be mentioned here that, police has also arrested Aleya Khatun, the home maid of Professor Hosne Ara Jesmine. Ayesha Khatun, the mother in law of Professor Jesmine is a 100 year old lady. There is nobody else in the house to look after her. So Professor Hosne Ara Jesmine and house maid Aleya Khatun should be released immediately on emergency basis.

In this backdrop, I am urging the authorities concerned to release all the detained ladies who have been arrested from the Quran tutorial class including Narail district Jamaat’s women wing secretary Professor Hosne Ara Jesmine immediately.
