In her brief speech as chief guest Begum Khaleda Zia blasted the government for its abject failure to run the country adding, “The government is completely destroying the country. Concerted movement will have to be launched. After Eid-ul-Fitr concerted movement will have to be launched. The government must be stepped down shortly after concerted movement. We want election under a neutral government. We want to establish democratic government.”

She said, “The condition of the country is grim. The people of the country are acutely suffering. The country is now in various abject problems. Killing, abduction and ki8dnapping is going on. She called upon all irrespective of caste and creed to come forward to take part in the united movement to oust this tyrant government which is plunderer of the properties of the people of the country. The 95 percent people of the country are supporting us. After Eid-ul-Fitr the government must be toppled down through a vigorous movement.

Addressing the Iftar Mahfil Prof. Mujibur Rahman welcomed all for attending Iftar Mahfil and said; today those who were scheduled to sit here have unjustly been detained in the prison for long four years by this tyrant government so as to fulfill its political vengeance. Last year the leader who took part in the Iftar Mahfil along with us also passed away. It is a matter of great regret that the government didn’t allow to hold the funeral prayer of a clean man like him. The government carried out tyranny and persecution on those who were arrested while attending the funeral prayer. We pray to Allah for the salvation of those who became victim of the government’s atrocities and died. May Allah grant them the highest reward Zannat.

He said the holy Ramzan is a month of revealing the holy Quran. There is a guideline of the salvation of humankind and welfare in the holy Quran. The fastim of the Ramzan has been made obligatory to attain Taqwa in order to build up personal, familial, social and state life in light of the holy Quran. Taqwa is not a name of fostering Allah’s fear in the mind. Rather it is called bringing about the reflection of Allah’s fear in the practical life.

Expressing concern over the current political impasse in the country he asserted the country and the nation are now passing a deep crisis. This tyrant government has captured power forcibly through holding the sham election on 5th January snatching the due franchise of the people of the country and burying the election system. This government is not a government elected by the people. this government is an illegal government in the true sense of the term. The whole nation is exasperated due to the government’s tyranny, torture and persecution. Through the violation of human rights including the killing, abduction, kidnapping and anti-constitutional activities have made the usual habit of the government.

The government is carrying out untold persecution on the leaders and workers of the 20-party alliance including Jamaat-e-Islami. Women, babies and men even the old men didn’t spare from the government’s repression. The government has carried out persecution on the respected Alim-Ulama and Peer-Mashaikhs, he said.

Prof. Mujibur Rahman said the government has arranged a farce in the name of holding the trial through filing fabricated and imaginary allegation so as to kill; the top Jamaat very plannedly. It ruthlessly slaughtered Shahid Abdul Quader Molla defying the world community’s repeated request including the UN Secretary General. His family members were not allowed to attend the funeral prayer and burial ceremony.

In this regard he urged the countrymen to be vocal against this government’s continued tyranny, persecution and repression.

Quoting from the holy Quran, Sura Nisa, verse 75 he also called upon all to build up mass-resistance against the tyrant government concertedly.

On the eve of the Iftar Prof. Mujibur Rahman conducted Munajat praying to Allah for peace, progress and prosperity of the Muslim Ummah including Bangladesh.
